About the Position

The Veterinary Officer will be responsible for providing veterinary care to equine animals in rural communities. This will include diagnosing and treating illnesses, educating owners about animal husbandry, and referring serious cases to other veterinarians.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat equine animals according to Brooke’s standard operating procedures
• Manage support staff, including farriers and drivers
• Educate owners/users and handlers regarding the prevention of diseases and good practices in animal husbandry
• Conduct awareness-raising meetings/sessions for primary stakeholders in target communities
• Submit monthly medicine demands and keep an accurate record of medicines used
• Plan and implement community projects in collaboration with the community and project staff
• Provide input for fundraising and communications efforts
• Prepare a yearly work plan and budget
• Follow all safety procedures

Qualifications

• Degree in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from an accredited university/institute with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or above
• Minimum 2 years of experience working with large animals
• Experience in community development and social mobilization
• Good computer and communication skills
• Ability to work with local service providers, government vets, and parapets
• Ability to foster good relationships with relevant government officials and NGOs
